Shiitake Mushroom growing course
The Shiitake mushroom is one of the most delicious, nutritional, medicinal and valuable mushroom that can be relatively easily grown in your own garden. The method we will use is by inoculating our own oak and beech logs using spawn bought from an organic supplier. Participants will learn some of the theory involved and will witness and partake in the practical preparation of the logs with subsequent injection of the spawn therein. We will be cutting the logs from our own land on the beginning of April, ready to be used on the course by April 27. It is possible that we will see some production of the mushrooms in Autumn of this year (2024) if all goes well, otherwise we will see the real start of fruiting in 2025. They will be expected to fruit for between 3 – 7 years after that, if looked after properly. Participants to the course will be able to take a log home with them, or they can leave their named log with us, and we will look after them and let you know when the main fruiting has begun.
The price of this workshop includes your own log, the necessary spawn, use of the tools required, a light Ayurvedic lunch, tea & coffee etc.
